Louise Hobba: 10 Funniest Things I’ve Ever Seen (On The Internet) | comedy

TeaThat internet is basically the sun to me. I need it to live, but I know spending all day in its glow will eventually kill me. It made my mind a worse place but when I watch these funny videos, I can easily forget how awesome it is. Actually, I can easily forget anything because the internet has ruined my long term memory.

I get nervous when showing people things on the internet – I’m really ashamed to show people something they’ve already seen. People turn to you as if you are the other person who invented the wheel. That being said, let’s start with a hugely popular video!

1. Lublin: Turning Yahoo Answers into Beautiful Music

There’s a good chance you made Lublin’s lyrics from internet comments. He’s been on Fallon, which is similar to what I’m doing “introducing” you to Coldplay. If you’ve already seen it then just pretend you didn’t and laugh to make me feel good. This is such a perfect execution of a simple idea.

2. This Tweet (which Taika Waititi also enjoyed)

I must have sent this tweet at least a dozen times when this tweet dropped. I already know that my job is a joke, I clearly don’t need personal attacks like that. My girlfriend thought it was so funny when I showed it to her (after she ended her busy day working at the hospital).

3. Today’s Day: ‘Is It Good?’

I didn’t discover The Day Today until 20 years after its closure. Thanks, Internet! It was the birthplace of Steve Coogan’s character Alan Partridge. It’s not Partridge, but the line “Is this cool?” Something like this is my friend Veronica Milsom and I’ve been yelling at each other intermittently since she showed me this sketch.

4. Impressions!

Once the algorithm decides to do something you like, it will whittle that thing down your throat like a duck turned into foie gras. What fixed it is that I love “specific impressions”, and hate terrible algorithms because I absolutely do! Here are three quick favourites:

There will never be a more on-point impression of talking to a friend like this.

The imprint of Mel Buttle’s mothers is in a museum. “Good day to be a frog!” love it.

Caitlin Reilly is Best Actor in a Role Playing Actors. All her work is great, but her range of poorly written female characters (science-fiction, action movies, teen dramas and more) is amazing.

5. Clickhole’s ‘Find Your Dragon Name’ Quiz

There is joy in a joke that surprises you. It’s not him. This stupid joke is going right where you think it is and your hand is on the stupid steering wheel.

It’s a sick thrill. Go on, treat yourself. Find out the name of your dragon, unless it is Ragarth. Your dragon is better not to be Ragarth!

6. Warthog attacking a man who tried to pat him

Sometimes when we’re having a hard day at work my co-workers will suggest we revisit the South African Pig Man. This is just a small treat. Everyone has their own version of the South African Pig Man. This is mine.

Whoever made this clip, finished it at the right time. We will never know what happened to the South African Pig Man, and I think it is for good.

7. A Life in Question: Wisdom School with Aaron Chen

As a broadcaster I ask questions every day, but I know deep down that I will never come close to Aaron Chen when it comes to question asking skills.

8. That Michelle and Webb Look: ‘Stay Indoors’

It blew up again at the start of the pandemic, and remains a modern classic. This was pretty close to the bone two years ago – hopefully you’re ready to laugh at it again!

9. Chaotic Nightclub Photos Twitter account

As the world opens up after years of lockdown, people are ready for our Jazz Age. The chaotic nightclub photos are both a love letter and a public service announcement ready to get out there and paint the city.

10. This Guardian Headline

I am very bad with money. I bought some bitcoins back in 2010 to buy normal legal things off the internet and I didn’t keep track of the wallet. I don’t know where it is. My friend Michael Hing roughly calculated and estimated its current price to be around A$3m. oh well Now all I can do is enjoy the ridiculous way rich people lose money.

I’m not saying this just to make the Guardian look good, but this title shows the right amount of restraint. It doesn’t get any more fun than the truth.
